Lucille May lives in Stellenbosch, South Africa, the town where Apartheid was launched. In her story she shares about her typically Afrikaner upbringing, student days and finally the challenge of marrying a man of colour when it was still very much frowned upon, especially in her town. She discusses issues like religion, conformity and freedom, race an equality. When these issues are stripped of all pretence, her delightful and sharp sense of humour comes through very strongly.  She also shares how she had learnt  to overcome a very dark period in her life which she calls “The Valley of the shadow of death” – a time of great emotional and spiritual pain. Her book is soaked in deep wisdom and fearless honesty – something rare but desperately needed in our day.
