FAITH RISKS NATURAL ASSETS,

TO GAIN SUPERNATURAL OUTCOMES

Normal task assignments, even the very challenging ones, can be successfully performed based solely on expertise and experience.

God-given assignments differ. These may employ human expertise and experience, but they always make demands that exceed natural capabilities. Such assignments require faith, and faith carries risk.

Risk is inherent in faith.

Faith, in essence, is also sacrificial, since it puts at risk what is tangible (like assets) or intangible (like security or reputation) in order to obtain the desired supernatural outcome. Sowing seed always carries risk, but only the sower can expect to reap a harvest.

In Matthew25:14-30, Jesus’ parable illustrates this aspect of faith.

A master entrusted three servants with managing his business interests during his absence. The third servant refused to step out in faith, avoiding even the most secure risk available. His reluctance to take risks led to disgrace and shame. His explanation for his behaviour reveals that fear of failure, rather than faith, characterized his actions.

Everything you and I are and have comes from above. Our Master entrusted to us both tangible and intangible assets. He expects to receive an increase from His investment in us.

Faith does not gamble with God-entrusted assets. It actively seeks to trade God-given temporal assets to gain eternal value.
